Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has tried to defend herself after attending the $35k-a-head Met Gala wearing a 'Tax the Rich' dress - saying it is her 'responsibility' as a New York elected official. The 31-year-old socialist Democrat also claimed that 'the medium is the message' while championing her designer Aurora James, who she called 'a sustainably focused, Black woman immigrant.' But she was met with derision online, as people slammed her for being a 'hypocrite' and a 'fraud' for advocating wealth equality while rubbing shoulders with the most elite. One even likened her dress to the infamous coat worn by Melania Trump which read 'I really don't care, do u?' while she was visiting a children's migrant detention centre in Texas.
